you will never realize because you will never pay attention. as the patterns emerge. as the ligths come out. as the beams find you. nothing really changes, nothing really changes. you’re there, alone. not realizing the full implications. the truth. you just stand there. darkness abounds and you just stand there. they’re playing your favorite song and you’re just standing there. you think it resonates. you think it’s beginning to make sense. you’re wrong. righteous and wrong. consumed by the camera. consumed by the media. consumed by your friends. comatose. inspired by loose riffs. brought to submission. you think it makes sense. you think it’s all for a reason. you think but you’re not sure why or what or who or when or where or why or when or why or how or why or who or what or where or what else. before you start again, before you try again, before you give up……………………….. no way out here. no solution in sight. no chance of making wrongs right. no way of explaining it all. it’s your fault you know it you don’t want to change it. not just this time. not ever before. not ever again. no way to change it now unless you confess unless you admit to it. you hate them you want them you loathe them you want to be like them. you want to become them. you want to so badly.

and then, suddenly, everything changed.

Good times make us forget about the bad ones. And vice versa.

The quality of a restaurant’s food and service is inversely proportional to the appeal of it’s location. Especially here in Amsterdam.

- what if i could pull my location data from plazes? (and have it set automatically when I post an update) (forgot about tijs’ QS plugin)
- what if i could extract my location data into my blog (”blogged from…”)
- what if it tied into my google calendar to show where i am going to be?
- proper profile pages, like flickr
- view everyone in ‘Stockholm’ right now
- LJ style autolinking names (hanged out with _mz_ today, etc.)
- means of crossposting comments from Jaiku to flickr/blog/etc
- private messages
- os x notifier
- sidebar URLs should be linked
- favicon for my blog feed (in the sidebar)
- proper unsubscribe from comments notification in certain threads
- post updates by email
- easy feed add (plug your flickr username and the system does the rest)
- full text search
- proper IM integration (most recent jaiku presence becomes my away message, and vice-versa)
- condensed view of location history (user has posted from X, Y and Z in the past week)
- make sidebar feed names linked to the feed source.

I was going to do this big exposé about how all companies’ product sites suck. Taking screenshots, comparing and contrasting them, etc. The big conclusion was going to be how only apple.com knows how to properly present a product: good photos, good description, good data, good navigation.

It’s the obvious conclusion, but man… product pages suck.

So here I am, wanting to spend more money than is considered healthy on a new mobile phone, and I can’t find anyone selling it. I’ve looked online, and I’ve looked in stores. Nowhere to be found. How hard can it be to push it out to the biggest city in one of the world’s most prosperous nations, Nokia?

this is what you do when you don’t go out and do your bike-thing because your wisdom tooth decided to pain you.

design is taking away everything you do not need.

about a year ago, I was terribly in to google earth and getting a decent satellite photo of amsterdam. you see, the resolution over amsterdam at the time was abysmal: a single medium-res shot of a dozen square blocks on top of a beyond low-res shot of the country.

to fix this, I tracked down a dutch service which hosted flyover shots of the city in a weird flash encapsulated format, but nonetheless managed to automatically download the 688 individual jpg tiles. getting those together into big coherent image took a bit of work, but the end-result more than made up for it: a very hi-res shot of the entire city, overlaid in google earth for my browsing pleasure.

as it always goes with these things, google released new and improved imagery of the area only a few days after my masterful hack, rendering my end-result mostly futile.

interestingly the GE people “patched” the imagery just east of the NEMO recently. a photo with a notably different hue has been placed over the area between centraal station and the panamalaan, with a curious difference:
