at the center of my universe?
nothing.
no one.

The (German: Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft (English: Association for subordinate officials of the head office management of the Danube steamboat electrical services) was a suborganization of the Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft (DDSG) in pre-war Vienna, Austria, a shipping company for transporting passengers and cargo on the Danube. The DDSG still exists today in the form of the now private companies DDSG-Blue Danube Schiffahrt GmbH (passenger transport) and the DDSG-Cargo GmbH.
Since the German spelling reform of 1996, Schiffahrt is written with three fs, so the correct modern spelling in affected countries would use 80 letters, Donaudampfschifffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft, but as the word is a name, however, the spelling with 79 letters is kept.

happy pi-day

so at this juncture, my friends belong to either of two groups:
- those who pay their own rent
- those who do not
there is no overlap of any sort.

The feeling of always wanting to be somewhere else.

Do you read loose ends? Please click (once):
(No data is gathered; just a timestamp for my evil purposes)
four posts in a row discussing things that presumably everybody does (technology threshold, visualizing friends, speeding up, creating).
it is time for me to stop guessing what you do with your time; and to start deciding what I should do with mine.
when i write a book (i have a couple in mind), i’ll call it sped up.
i am perpetually staggered by the cottage-industry of ways to speed every aspect of our quotidian up to eleven. things like GTD & 4G & ADD – all symptoms of something we desperately crave for. you know it as well as i: lifehacks and fastfood and bandwidth and to-do-lists and shortcuts. we don’t allow for anything to slow us down, except ourselves. we are becoming our own bottleneck.
i try not to judge the movement. partly because i am profoundly caught up in it, and partly because my opinion bears little consequence to what most people seem to want. speeding everything up is a natural progression to everything we hold for granted today.
the point of the book, however, would be to elaborate on things that are worth slowing down for. (not necessarily things tending your herb garden and practicing your yoga. i’m pretty sure that’s been covered.)
anyway, it’s late and i stopped making sense hours ago.
so everybody has a friend that immediately comes to mind when they think of “somebody fat”. and a friend who comes to mind for “somebody successful”. or “left home at an early age”. or “always liked sports”. or “has bad skin”.
what will you be remembered for?
everybody has a threshold in regards to how much technology they want in their lives (”no mobile phone, but i’m cool with a car, microwave and cable teevee”). unless they are Amish, they already accept more tech than their parents ever had access to (mostly without noticing it).
so i say: why bother stopping it? accept that it is a symbiotic relationship; and that you won’t reverse the trend by being stubborn.

recent things i mean to write about on loose ends, but haven’t gotten around to yet:
- media every day
- think tanks
- generation with no rituals
- why do we create?
- people are no good at being told what to do, nor how to do it.
- benefits of always on data.
- dear nikon & canon. slr-like compact camera
- sped up

to all of those i have ever denied a car ride when i could have dropped you off,
or those i’ve ignored emails from,
not listened to properly,
made fun of,
been rude to,
whose youtube links i haven’t watched,
blogs i haven’t read,
suggestions i’ve dismissed,
praise i’ve snubbed,
who asked me for help but were asked to wait.

so travel agents are a dying breed because the web allows us to buy & compare tickets easily.
and real estate agents are a dying breed because craigslist, etc., allows us to connect with sellers easily.
why do advertising agencies think they are any different?
it can’t all be hubris.
