the other red wine

the rest will go away
the past is pushed down
and the present is refreshed
and you get one more insightful little nugget of wisdom to interpret to your heart’s content.

i could share it all here,
tell you everything,
open up,
give you a chance to ask any question,
shine a light,
but it would not matter,
would not add up,
would not accumulate to a significant difference,
would not aggregate to a reasonable effect,
would not matter. not at all.
it’s not why you’re here.

from my old blog, dreams:

Funny I should find this old post today, considering yesterday’s gratuitous display of power supplies and plastic.
So an update, 5 years down the road, is in good order:
I currently use an almost two-year old 15″ MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz, Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM and 160 GB disk. For work as well as play. I use mostly external drives for keeping of data though (currently 5 Western Digitals, ranging from 250 to 500 GB each; for photos, videos, backups). Online backup is starting to take off properly.
Apps? Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, no more Dreamweaver (TextMate all the way), Final Cut Pro 5 (mostly from upgrade inertia). OS X 10.5.6.
No more palmtop, but a Nokia E71 with keyboard and whatnot. 3.5G, all sorts of connectivity (GSM, EDGE, UMTS, 802.11g/b), 2 GB MicroSD and 369 MHz ARM11 Freescale and 3.2 MP camera and Symbian S60 V3.1, assisted GPS, 2.4″ QVGA LCD. Does a good job overall.
Camera? Nikon D700. FX sensor, 12 MP. 8 GB storage is reasonable today.
Connectivity? 3G over the air tops out around 3mbps in the Netherlands and 1mbps in São Paulo. DSL is in the 10mbps range with fiber doing at least 100mbps for €40/month or so.

I insist: this post is irrelevant today. But wait until 2013.

our beauty and intelligence and success.
we always compare ourselves with our future and past selves.
and we extrapolate.
and we decide that this is as good as things can be.
this is the best. even when it’s the worst.

I’m betting 12k before Dec 31 with Portugal and all.

Here’s a pretty good timeline of mobile phones owned by me thus far.

I clearly need other things to talk about with my friends.
